Verify identity and licensing
Use the official state bar or licensing authority to verify the lawyer's status, public discipline information, and contact details. Confirm that the lawyer, not only an intake service, is responsible for the matter.
Ask issue-specific questions
- How much of your practice involves this type of employment issue?
- Which agency, court, or contract route appears relevant and why?
- What evidence would materially change your view?
- Who will do the work and communicate with me?
- What is outside the proposed scope?
Compare the complete cost
Request a written agreement that explains fees, expenses, calculation order, responsibility if there is no recovery, fee awards, liens, withdrawal, co-counsel, and stages not included.
Treat certainty with care
A responsible consultation should identify missing facts, risks, competing explanations, deadlines, and practical tradeoffs. No lawyer can guarantee a result.
Official sources and governing guidance
Open the source that matches the issue and confirm coverage, jurisdiction, current instructions, and any deadline directly.
